The story of the Wind, the Earth, and the fire

The Wind is quiet but perfectly timed for the Earth. He follows the Earth’s intuition.

The Wind is older than the Earth, more weathered. The Earth pushes the Wind not to be so afraid. The Wind hesitates while the Earth anticipates.

The Earth is open to the Wind’s freshness but keeps her back turned to not feel the familiar lashes of pain once swept upon her.

They move in silence together, listening to it. The Wind waits for the Earth’s cue, patiently yearning. The minute the Earth stirs, the Wind is behind her, eager to continue sharing the same space.

Together, the Wind and the Earth go to the island of the fire. They both know that they need external heat to meld them together, and yet, they remain constant as the pressure builds under the surface. They circle around each other, waiting for the right moment to release.

The Wind and the Earth can feel the energy between them. They had witnessed powerful forces together: the orange glow of the Cheshire moon, a blessing from Japan’s queen of the universe, two fiery setting suns being serenaded to sleep, a forest draped in terrifying fog, a star jumping out of the sky. They were aligned with the cosmos, fulfilling an unknown prophecy.

The Earth gets closer to the Wind, inviting him into her world. The Wind constrains his eagerness, letting it flare up just enough to gently give birth to long awaited flames. As the Wind and the Earth swirl together, fire ignites. Unaware of the power they yield, the Wind and the Earth continue. The elements roar together in perfect harmony; the Earth and the Wind gently pour out their passions, while the fire bubbles over in agreement.

As the Wind and the Earth settle into each other, the fire continues. It screams out over the land, greedily seeking the elements that once fed it. With nowhere to go, the infantile fire resigns to the silence, turning to dust. It wasn’t until the embers reached the dewy morning earth that the couple saw their reign over the fire.

Standing dumbfounded and covered in ash, they reluctantly left the volcanic island, watching it silently throw a tantrum from the safety of a leaking ferry. The Earth and the Wind wander aimlessly from their home, dreading their awaited separation.

They listen to the silence together a bit longer, knowing it will soon be empty.

The Wind waves goodbye to the Earth, just before the rain comes.
